Do you ever feel like you cannot distinguish between the Lord’s voice and your own? A prayer of mine throughout this past month was for the Lord to make his voice unmistakable. Today, He certainly did!

This morning our squad split up around the city of Antigua to do Spirit-led evangelism (we call it Ask the Lord). Basically, it is asking the Lord to point out specific people, places, or things He wants us to go and minister to. I have struggled with this type of evangelism throughout the month because I tend to discount the Holy Spirit’s voice as my own. While I was praying for the Lord to show me something, an image of a woman carrying a bunch of Guatemalan flags to sell almost immediately popped into my mind. I was again discouraged, thinking that it was my mind just trying to make up something, but I still chose to tell my group about it.

We had just finished praying over these two men doing construction on the street when we saw a woman carrying a bunch of Guatemalan flags about a block away. We ended up having to run to catch up and stop her. The woman told us her name was Teresa; she shared about her faith in Jesus, told us about her family, and we began praying over her. After the prayer Brittany, one of the women in our group, asked her if she had trouble being distracted in her walk with God; Teresa replied yes. Brittany went on to ask Teresa if she was able to hear the Lord’s voice. She said she hadn’t, so Brittany asked her to repeat a prayer that said, “Holy Spirit, I want to hear your voice. I want to hear you speak to me. Please reveal yourself to me.” While that was going on, I silently prayed that the Lord would make his voice loud and clear to Teresa, that she would without a doubt hear and know the voice of the Spirit.

After the prayer, Teresa explained that she went to the doctor two months ago because she couldn’t hear from her right ear. The doctor could not figure out why she lost her hearing, so it went untreated. She had become discouraged and distracted in her walk with God because he hadn’t healed her. During the prayer, she felt overcome by the Holy Spirit, felt a pop in her ear, and began hearing again. As she spoke, I was so taken back; the Lord really spoke to me this morning and used our group for His glory in healing Teresa.

I am sitting here now in awe of how good He is! He allows us to partner with Him to breathe life back into hurting hearts. He gives us authority to declare His truth. He speaks to us and uses us even when we doubt Him. He comes out of the blue and blesses us in the most overwhelming ways!

Ephesians 3:20- “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”
